October Scrapbook Club "Swan Lake"

(Links to all supplies used in this post are featured at the bottom of the layout - will take you directly to my site where you can click and add them to your cart).

Love Love LOVING this month's paper choice, featuring the new "Swan Lake" workshop kit and matching products from CTMH!  Wowzas!  My scrapbook club members created two layouts (four pages) and three cards.  Seriously.  Adorable.  The two layouts came from the Swan Lake Workshop Kit (included in links below) and I came up with the cards.  Okay don't bug me right now...I've gotta go make more cards!  LOL!

This layout is super simple...take two base page sheets, add a 4x12 strip along the top, a 1/2x12 border below, and then two 6x10 rectangles as photo mats.  I printed six photos, each in a 3x4 size (I'll share how to do that below), and that added some fru-fru and cutesie stuff to finish it off.  That's the beauty of CTMH products...the papers have matching complements and stickers, and when you buy just ONE $26.95 workshop kit, you get it ALL.  Makes creating cute artwork an absolute breeze.  :)

This is the left page, simple...with the highlight being the photos (as they should be in all your layouts).  I added a 2x5 piece of cardstock and stuck on the 'blessed' stickers from the Complements pack.

Right page, finished off with journaling.  This month I'm taking some time to talk and teach about the importance of adding the story.  I see many scrapbookers who don't like to journal or don't feel like they're good at it, so they just dates and basic details and call it good.  But think about this...what do you want people to know/remember about the pictures when you aren't around to tell them?  Those are the things to include in your journaling.  Add thoughts, feelings, background info, funny stories or events that happened behind the scenes.  Anything that will spark a memory and/or engage your reader is perfect to add.

This layout is especially meaningful to me, as my dad shared these two photos in tribute to my mother, his wife, who passed away after less than 7 years of marriage and five kids later.  I noted in my journaling that although the family picture on the right was old, faded, scanned/copied and not very clear, it was an absolute treasure because it's the last picture I have of our family before my mother passed away.  Guess what?  Sometimes it's okay to put in less-than-stellar pictures, especially if that's all you have.  The photo and the memory is important.

How cute is this couple?  I was only three when my mother passed away, but I sure would have liked to get to know her longer and build some memories with her.

Yes that's me with the dark hair and pigtails sitting by my mother.  I'm so thankful to have this very old, but very wonderful picture in my possession!  :)

Lastly, here are the three cards we created.  Quick tip if you like to conserve paper.  Instead of making a standard 4-1/4 x 5 1/2" card, where you can cut two from one 12x12 sheet of paper, make the finished card size 4 x 5-1/2" instead (only 1/4" smaller on one side).  It won't really be noticeable, will still fit nicely in the envelope, AND you will be able to get three cards from one sheet instead of just two.  I do this all the time.  Cut one end of your paper at 11" and set aside the 1x12 strip.  Then turn the paper once so that you are now looking at the 12" side, and cut it into three 4x11 strips, then fold in half to make your card base.  That's it!

The first card on the left is simply a 4x6 Picture My Life "Hello" card from the workshop kit paper, trimmed down to fit on the card front (size is 3-3/4 x 5-1/4).  The center card is a 4x6 white Picture My Life card from the workshop kit, trimmed down to match the card front size of 4 x 5-1/2, then layered down the center with two zip strips from the paper, and finished off with three flower stickers with white enamel circles (all came in the workshop kit!).  The card on the right has a gold heat-embossed star and 'Noel' stamped from the October Stamp of the Month set.  Cute and easy card!

'Adventure' Fundamentals Projects

Last month my September scrapbook club members created these really fun, bright projects using the new "Adventure" Fundamentals line of paper and matching complements.  I'm in love with all of them, and especially how they work so nicely together, have so much variety, and each has its own flavor.  Check out these layouts created using the ADVENTURE color palette from Close To My Heart!  This palette contains all of the new colors for the year, which makes it even more fun.  :)  Here are the links to some of the products you'll see below.  Click to see and buy them - they'll ship out in just a day or two from CTMH and head your way to play.  :)

If you need a fun but fast layout, try this...take THREE coordinating pieces of 12x12 pattern paper and cut them into three strips of 4" each.  You can see on the right that these were just stacked on top of each other.  Then cut the leftover strips in half to make 4x6 strips, and lay them on the left to match up.  This extends the room for photos, and also draws your eye to the solid burst of pink and the title on the left.  Try it - cute and easy!

I LOVE the products that complement here...the ribbon matches the color and theme of the paper, and the glitter words come in a set of Complements that are perfect with the colors as well.

On our second layout, we have lots of clean lines and bold stashes of color throughout.  This would be great for a summer, vacation, or kids layout.

My favorite thing about this layout is the really cool mini protector that will get put in the center of the layout in your album.  It adds additional space and room for photos and journaling, but it also adds a fun flip to the layout which makes it even better to look at and keep things together.  We have quite a few of these mini protectors in different sizes, so that you can add exactly what you want.  :)

This glitter title is already DONE for you...I just used some pop dots to pop it off the page for more depth.  Seriously, so cute.  Topped with some sticker stars and your title is a winner!

Don't forget about fun accents and groupings to add visual interest.  This one is a strip of white/purple ribbon, topped off with a glitter heart and another matching sticker to pull the look and elements of the layout together.

July "Magical" Club Projects

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the "Magical" paper line from Close To My Heart.  If you have Disney photos to scrapbook, you need this paper.  Period.  LOL!  My club members used the MAGICAL WORKSHOP KIT to create all of the following projects - so bright and fun!

LAYOUT

This layout is bright and fun, and SO easy to create!  Start with two sheets of White 12x12 cardstock for the base.  Then add two 4 x 12 strips of the black and white camera paper, then two 5 x 12 strips of the Honey and white polka dot paper, two red and white stripe zip strips, then add the included "Picture My Life" cards in the kit as photo mats.  Finish off with a few cute stickers and accents and you're done.  Cute layout in just minutes.  :)

MINI ALBUM IN A BOX

I need to add a photo of the inside of the box.  LOL!  #helpful
This entire box...the bottom, top, and accordion photo insert, were all created with just one 12x12 sheet of cardstock.  I'm going to record and add a video on how easy it is to create this soon.  Be watching!  :)

"Something Special" CARD

I love cards that do fun things...just changing the way it opens makes it even more fun and eye-catching.  This is a standard card base (5 1/2 x 8 1/2), then score at 2-1/8 on either side and fold along the score lines to the center of the card.  Then add B&T pattern paper and accents as desired.  This card features the black and white striped Picture My Life card, layered with stamps from the two following stamp sets:  July Stamp of the Month (only available in July) and the D1664 "Packages, Boxes, & Tags" stamp set.

April 2016 Club Projects "Regatta"

I'm having fun sharing this awesome REGATTA Workshops Your Way Kit from Close To My Heart.  It's so versatile and bright!

This is the first of two layouts we are creating this month in all of my scrapbook clubs.  This is our easy layout...takes less than 10 minutes to assemble.  The top blue piece is a sheet of B&T with the zip strip on top kept intact, not cut off.  Always a great start for a border and instant color.

Left layout page

Close up of the left page accent/possible title.  The pink rose paper is actually a 4x6 Picture My Life card that comes in the kit, followed by a layered strip of Flaxen cardstock, a large circle sticker and a small Kraft flower to finish it off.  Easy - just product layering, and ALL of that comes in the $26.95 kit.  WOW!

Right layout page

Close-up of the cute accent in the bottom corner.  Sometimes a simple layout can be pulled together simply by adding a cute focal point.  This was created by cutting a strip of Flaxen cardstock and cutting a faux-ribbon edge along it, then topping it with two Kraft flowers, a Kraft sentiment, and a bow (all included in the kit).

This is the second layout we are creating.  Sorry for the glare of the page protector - it looks a tiny bit like the shadow of Yoda, but I promise he wasn't here.  LOL!

Left layout page

My favorite part of this page is the Flip Flap title piece!  Simply add a 4x6 FLIP FLAP directly to the front of your page protector and slip in one of our awesome 4x6 PML cards included in the kit for an instant title.  This also gives you more room for photos, as you can fit two more below the flip flap.  One package of 4x6 Flip Flaps is only $3.95 and you get 15...yes, 15 (what a great deal!). This is one of my top five favorite products from Close To My Heart, and EVERY scrapbooker needs to have these in their possession.

Right layout page - so simple, simply cut a 12x12 piece of paper in half at 6" and place it in the center of your page, then add zip strips (included on every sheet of B&T paper) above and below for cute and easy borders.  I used THREE zip strips on this layout.

A really love this page accent...start with a 3x4 small PML card from the kit and mount it on coordinating Flaxen cardstock.  Tie a cute ribbon along the top edge, and finish off by adding another 1/2" strip of cardstock below it, with a sticker and two puffies.  So cute, so easy, but adds a big punch to the layout.  :)

This is the layout completed with pictures.  Although the kit name is "Regatta", which leads you to think about sailing, ships, water, etc., it's more versatile than that.  I used it to do my oldest son's Eagle Scout Ceremony and it works perfectly.  I included a picture below with the flip flaps closed and then opened, to show you how many extra pictures you could add.  For the right layout page, I actually added TWO flip flaps stacked on top of each other to double the space.  This layout has 11 photos on it with all the flip flaps.

 Oh goodness.
I've found my new card addiction.  LOL!
This folding pop-out card is SO stinkin' cute but so easy to create.  Be watching for a video coming soon on how to assemble this.  So easy, just two score lines!

Here's the folding pop-out card open so you can see the inside.  Seriously, how adorable is this card?  Great thing is it looks like a WOW card (and it is!) but it's actually really easy to create.

Time to join one of my local clubs if you want to be creating CUTE projects like these every month!  :)  Contact me!

April Stamp of the Month Card

I love the April 2016 Stamp of the Month from Close To My Heart!

Aren't all of the fun old cameras great?  This is only available in April so don't wait to purchase your set.  :)  Click the link above to view it and add it to your shopping cart.  You can purchase it for $17.95 full price, OR get it for just $5.00 with your $50 order...what a great perk!  :)

This is a card I created with this stamp set...the camera was stamped in black ink and cut out, as well as the photo frame.  I used our Watercolor Paints and Paintbrush Set to add a swash of yellow color on the background, as well as blue paint for the frame.  Finished it off with some shimmer trim and stamping.  Really cute and really simple.  :)  I also cut out my frame and mounted it with 3D foam tape so it popped off the page.

March 2016 Club Projects "Penelope"

I'm completely in love with the Close To My Heart PENELOPE Workshop Your Way Kit!  When you click the Penelope link above, you'll also see a link for the FREE workshop guide to download that gives you tons of ideas for creating great projects with this one kit.  LOVE THIS!  Save it to your computer for access at your fingertips for beautiful creations.  :)

This is the layout my club members created in March.  It's SO easy to assemble...there's no stamping, just paper and a great focus on the Picture My Life cards included in the kit.  Makes creating bright and embellished layouts a snap!

Left page - the entire left side of the layout is one strip of PML cards...don't cut them apart from the original sheet, just trim along one edge and attach the entire 12" length to the edge of the layout for an instant border.  :)

The PML cards were accented with an additional zip strip along the right edge, and then a rectangle sticker from the workshop kit, and two silver glitter puffies, also included in the kit.  Simple yet very eye-catching!

Right layout page.  You'll see many elements from the left page carried over to this page...a very important thing to keep in mind for continuity in creating.  Additional PML cards were used, and additional stickers and puffies were also added.

Don't get rid of your scraps...use them!  I took some 4x8 pieces of paper left from creating another project with this kit, and folded them in half for 4x4 card bases.  Then just decorated with washi tape (included in this kit!) and one of the small 3x4 PML cards cut in half (pink woodgrain) and adhered in the center.  Stickers and puffies also came in the kit.  Stamp your saying on the front and that's it! :)

One of my all-time favorite projects...the "Squash Book".  Be watching for a video link to show on my blog on HOW to create this.  It's great because it's a WOW mini book and super easy to create...just uses three square pieces of cardstock and three folds.  THREE!  Ha ha!  Stay tuned!

February 2016 Club Projects "Charlotte"

I love pretty much every single thing about this paper!  I created everything using the "Charlotte" Workshops Your Way kit (just $26.95 - such a great deal!!)

My scrapbook club members will be creating two layouts and a matching card this month.  This is our first layout - tons of room for photos and journaling in whatever size/orientation works for your photos!

Left page layout #1

Right page layout #1

Title accent layout #1

Main accent layout #1

This is layout #2 that we're creating.  Again, I always like to create using lots of open space so my friends and customers can put their photos and journaling where THEY want it, not where I choose for them.  :)

Left page layout #2

Right page layout #2

Title accent layout #2 (this was created with a Picture My Life card included in the kit...just round corners, mount on black cardstock, and embellish!)

Corner accent layout #2

Accent right page layout #2

This is the card we're making...I'm in love with it.  It took me just a few minutes to make, because I started with a bulk white card base, added part of a Picture My Life card for the top, then used our thin cuts and matching stamps to create the flower.  Finished off by using our Tombow blending pen dipped in my stamp pad to color with a watercolor effect.  So pretty and so easy!
